Since I’m one of the opening DJ’s for UK DJ/producer/musician Quantic at Tropicalia here in DC tonight, I thought I’d pick up something from Colombia, Quantic’s adopted home country. Check out The Latin Brothers’ “rhythm of the horse.”
Quantic has been a favorite for a long, long time. On his brand new tune, “Duvidó,” he combines traditional Colombian rhythms and marimba with modern production and vocals.
Fresh from the Sydney, Australia beat oven of DJ Daigo, here’s his re-bake of Arrested Development’s 1992 hip-hop classic “People Everyday” and Quantic & Nickodemus’ 2006 hit, “Mi Swing Es Tropical.”
Perry & the Harmonics were a Chicago-based soul-jazz combo who cut just one album for Mercury Records. Cashing in on the mid-sixties craze for anything spy-related, Intrigue With Soul album features jazzy Bond themes and the nicely grooving “Do the Monkey With James.”
Two of my very favorite artists, prolific musician/bandleader/producer/DJ Quantic and (in my humble opinion) the reigning queen of UK soul Alice Russell recently reunited. “Look Around the Corner” is the brilliant new single, available now as a download and on limited edition 10″ vinyl.
