Quantic has been a favorite for a long, long time. On his brand new tune, “Duvidó,” he combines traditional Colombian rhythms and marimba with modern production and vocals.
Digging through the mix archives, I unearthed and edited this early evening segment of a live set from summer 2012.
Our very own Sol Power All-Stars remix Ondatrópica’s Latin dance floor bomb, “Tiene Sabor, Tiene Sazón.” Proven dance floor fire starter!
Fresh from the Sydney, Australia beat oven of DJ Daigo, here’s his re-bake of Arrested Development’s 1992 hip-hop classic “People Everyday” and Quantic & Nickodemus’ 2006 hit, “Mi Swing Es Tropical.”
Perry & the Harmonics were a Chicago-based soul-jazz combo who cut just one album for Mercury Records. Cashing in on the mid-sixties craze for anything spy-related, Intrigue With Soul album features jazzy Bond themes and the nicely grooving “Do the Monkey With James.”
Two of my very favorite artists, prolific musician/bandleader/producer/DJ Quantic and (in my humble opinion) the reigning queen of UK soul Alice Russell recently reunited. “Look Around the Corner” is the brilliant new single, available now as a download and on limited edition 10″ vinyl.
The 20 albums released in 2011 that I listened to the most. Of course, there’s significant overlap with the countless other best-of lists, but there are gems here that were overlooked by many, as well as return-to-form releases and great records from long-time favorites.
Just a few songs I’ve been personally feeling lately, including great new releases from indie artists St. Vincent and CANT, a brilliant cumbia/house hybrid from Quantic, vital revivalist soul from Raphael Saadiq, and some incredible reworkings of classics from Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.
Out now on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings is the “Tafsiri Sound” EP from Owiny Sigoma Band. Quantic comes correct (yet again!) on the remix with a deep dancefloor monster!
Ten years and twelve albums into his career, Will Holland aka Quantic shows no sign of stopping. This new double-disc retrospective highlights his amazingly varied music released under a number of studio projects.
