London-based producer, SOPHIE has been on the scene for nearly a year. The track “Hard” is very reminiscent of Aphex Twin’s early IDM work, but with bits of grime, future bass and even j-pop/k-pop elements.

File under experimental. “Jump Bugs” by Syclops is a dance floor burner in the hands of the right DJ. Perfect music for medium sized venues where you have the intensity of a proper sound system and the intimacy of the music being close.

Disclosure’s “White Noise” single (featuring vocalist Aluna George), has received well-deserved rave reviews from across the board. The songwriting is simply great. Their video for the track pays homage to Detroit.

Miike Snow managed to put out a better song than “Animal” in my opinion with “Cult Logic.” The acid lines and techno undertones take me back to the old club days but with a modern twist.

Motor City Drum Ensemble mix the next DJ Kicks

Announced today at the DJ Kicks website, the next installation in the well-known & well-respected DJ mix series will be from Stuttgart’s Danilo Plessow, otherwise known as the excellent Motor City Drum Ensemble. Plessow says the mix will be “A classic Dj kicks, not just a house mix,” covering free jazz, cosmic disco, afrobeat, and classic Chicago house.
