Song of the Day: Bobby Womack “California Dreaming (Jayl Funk Edit)”

The Poet Bobby Womack

Beloved raspy-voiced R&B singer Bobby Womack passed away in June, 2014 at the age of 70, after a long, storied career that spanned five decades, from Sam Cooke bandmate to Damon Albarn collaboration. The quintessential soul survivor gets a nice, thumping tribute from a-list dance floor funk producer Jayl Funk. Womack’s soulful interpretation of The Mamas & the Papas’ 60s folk-pop classic, “California Dreaming” gets—in Jayl Funk’s own words—”a little bit more DJ Friendly and with some beatz on it.”
