Song of the Day: Kilo Kish “Like Honey”

Very little in contemporary popular music sounds quite like electronic/ hip-hop artist Kilo Kish‘s “Like Honey”, the standout cut from her new EP, mothe. Kish marries an almost New Order-inspired synth line to bits of grime, R&B and hip-hop for a unique techno-organic listening experience. The song is intense, riding a minor-key groove and accented by soulful (and occasionally electronically manipulated) singing from Kish. Kish brings an almost punk attitude to the song, managing to sound both vulnerable and tough at the same time. The whole EP, which dropped last week, is well worth checking out.

Kilo Kish was born in Orlando in 1990. She is both a visual artist (with a background in design) and musician. Her music career to date has largely been sporadic – serving largely as a stop-gap to her design career. That said, following the release of her well received 2016 debut LP, Reflections in Real Time, Kish appears to be focusing increasingly on music. If the mothe EP is anything to go by, we can expect great things from this exciting young musician in the future.
