Song of the Day: Beasts of Bourbon “Just Right”

If you have one of the coolest rock n roll names ever then you better deliver and Sydney, Australia’s Beasts of Bourbon have been delivering since 1983. The band started off as side project by members of some Australia’s most influential indie/punk bands The Scientists, the Hoodoo Gurus and The Johnnys before becoming a real band. Members have come and gone over the years but the band has put out some great gut bucket rock n roll. To me they sound like a cross between the Rolling Stones (circa 1972), the Stooges and the Cramps. They had some success in Australia and although their records saw release in the US and the UK they were never big in either.

“Just Right” was released in 1992 and is fairly typical of their sound. I would have loved to have seen these guys in a sweaty pub back in the day. Henry Rollins saw them a few times in Australia and is a huge fan. In this link he recounts them playing before Nirvana before an Aussie festival in 1992 and making them very nervous.
