Watch: Andrea & Cesar’s Wedding at Epic Yoga in downtown DC
Towards the end of last summer I rocked an evening in Dupont Circle for Andrea and Cesar and a lively group of family and friends. It was a hot night, as summer wasn’t ready to let go yet, but this wedding at Epic Yoga DC turned out to be a memorable one. Tom Daly Photography was on hand to capture the moments in stills and video. He was even able to catch some perfect snaps around the Dupont Circle fountain before a big storm rolled through.
We started with a ceremony in Epic Yoga’s hot yoga room. As the whole studio is a raw, industrial space with exposed brick and wood floors, each space in the venue is easily transformable into modern, chic event mode. I started with a prelude of Sam Smith instrumentals, then led into the ceremony with John Legend‘s “All Of Me”, after which the bridal party strolled out to Christina Perri‘s “A Thousand Years”.
Cocktails in the lobby were soundtracked with a lot of Brazilian sounds, but not just classics like Astrud Gilberto. I crossed eras and dug into some Bah Samba and Os Tincoãs. Dinner featured other Latin sounds from Quantic, Novalima, Carlos “Patato” Valdes and more.
My own crew actually helped get the party started, as I selected my Sol Power partner Deep Sang’s edit of Grupo Niche to kick off the dancing. Cumbia led to merengue, salsa and boogaloo before I dipped into some funk, soul and ’80s pop with Whitney Houston, Kool & The Gang and Gloria Estefan.
I took it back to Colombia with Sonora Carruseles then to Mexico via Paulina Rubio and then to Puerto Rico with some Don Omar and Daddy Yankee reggaeton bangers before weaving together some hip-hop and dancehall. The last song of the night is one I try to use as a summary of the evening, and that honor went to Tanto Metro and Devonte‘s “Everyone Falls In Love”. The spent and happy crowd then spilled out onto Connecticut Avenue as the Saturday night pageantry was getting into full swing.
