The Intimates were a Doo-Wop group from New York City. That is pretty much all I can find out about them. The real significance of this song is that it was written by Lou Reed, in his pre-Velvet Underground days as a factory songwriter.

“I’ve Got a Tiger in My Tank” is one of the highlights of the 1996 Arf Arf compilation, Only in America. The version below omits the tiger roars, which really put the song over the top and can be heard here.
