Been thinking of starting a chill soul + specialty mixed drinks night here in DC, and this is one track I’d certainly be dropping. The label that released this recording, Forte, was based out of Kansas City, MO. The label had a solid run of powerful releases throughout the ’70s and early ’80s, but unfortunately, no Forte release ever became a major hit. The inevitable outcome was that it slowly fizzled out. One interesting fact was that the label owner, Ellis Taylor, eventually married a singer named Marva Whitney…….that’s right, the same Marva who tore it up with James Brown for a spell. Ms. Whitney/Taylor also released a number of tunes on Forte.
