Roy Ayers is one of my all-time favorite artists — he’s got straight ahead jazz joints, disco classics, R&B smashes… he can even house it up. But his tunes always drip with funk. “Life is Just a Moment Part 1,” from his flawless Mystic Voyage LP, combines a lot of these elements, but most importantly it just GROOVES.
