It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for a good pop song. Though I DJ Indie rock, Techno, Nu Disco and House music jams, I throw a monthly Top 40 party called Becky. I make no apologies about my love for popular music. It’s why I totally dig Robin Thicke’s Pharrell produced monster of a tune, “Blurred Lines”.
Since its debut in the spring, “Blurred Lines” has been a must play at my parties. It’s a certified dancefloor filler. It’s also the second Billboard number one hit touched by Pharrell this summer (the other is Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”). I read an interview with Robin Thicke where he stated “Blurred Lines” is a nod to Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give it Up”. I’m unsure if in 30 years block parties will be filled with people doing the Electric Slide to “Blurred Lines”, like they currently do to “Got to Give It Up”, but party-goers certainly get down to it on the dancefloor today. Time will tell.
