Song of the Day: The Beatles “Hey Bulldog”

The Beatles are my favorite band and always will be. There are so many great songs of theirs that I love that I’d have a hard time picking my favorite or even my favorite top ten. One song that would make my top ten would be “Hey Bulldog” which they recorded in 1968 and released on 1969’s Yellow Submarine album.

It starts with a great piano riff and has a really inventive Paul McCartney bass line, some killer guitar from George Harrison and great vocals from John Lennon (with McCartney backing him up). Ringo, one of the great under-regarded contributors to the bands’ sound, puts in one of the drum performances of his career, here. “Geoff Emerick, the Beatles’ engineer, would subsequently claim this was the last song the band recorded that featured a team dynamic with enthusiasm from every member.” (from wikipedia)

When I attended college at the University of Georgia I used to call our college radio station (WUOG 90.5FM) and request this song on game days. Always got me in a great mood and still does!

PS. Enjoy the video here too as it was one of the few times the Beatles allowed film cameras inside Abbey Road studios while they were working.
