Taylor & Maggie’s Wedding at the Comus Inn

Taylor & Maggie’s wedding at the Comus Inn in Dickerson, MD was one of those days where all the elements come together. The venue was a tented terrace at the Comus Inn overlooking Sugarloaf Mountain and the picture perfect rolling farmland that surrounds the mountain. When I arrived to set up the ceremony by the barn located at the rear of the property with the best views available I knew this was going to be a beautiful wedding. It was at this point I got talking to Maggie’s father, Manny who was a DJ in his college days. We must have spent half an hour talking about the state of technology and the crazy things that you see as a DJ. A single wireless microphone on a stand provided perfect coverage for Maggie, Taylor and their officiant.

After a brief scare during the ceremony where a single rogue cloud raced past sprinkling the ceremony with around 10 seconds of light rain things calmed down a spectacular sunset ensued.

From the ceremony everyone proceed back to the terrace for a cocktail hour mix put together by Taylor consisting of bluegrass & classical fusions by artists such as Yo Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile and the Kruger Brothers. Dinner music was another mix selected by Taylor featuring Yo La Tengo.

During the Father Daughter dance Taylor and his best men Ryan and Peter performed an incredible rendition of Johnny Cash‘s “Ring of Fire” on guitar and mandolin. For this performance I supplied an acoustic pickup microphone run through a Radial Pro48 active DI box and three microphones. The performance was a highlight of the evening.

We started the dancing portion of the night off with Lets Dance by David Bowie and ended it with Party In The USA by Miley Cyrus. Along the way we played a mix of 60’s (“These Arms of Mine” by Otis Redding), 80’s (“P.Y.T.” by Michael Jackson), 90’s (“Girls and Boys” by Blur) and current pop hits (“Wild Ones” by Flo Rida, “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars) that kept the dance floor packed from start to finish. This was not a shy crowd! Big thanks to Katie Nesbitt for the terrific photographs!
