Song(s) of the Day: Erol Alkan “Ghost Mix no. 9”

I’ve been deeply feeling London-based DJ/producer Erol Alkan’s psychedelic beatsmithery lately. His remixes are expansive, groovy, and exist doggedly outside of prevailing trends in dance music. Simply put, he does his own thing. Keeping an ear to the ground for any new material, this wonderful DJ mix surfaced just before the holidays. Ninth in the Ghostmix series, Mr. Alkan is in great company with the likes of Optimo, Gus Gus, Matthew Herbert, Dr. Alex Patterson, and Roots Manuva, among others. His selections are deep and varied, from Todd Rundgren to Syd Barrett (who would have turned 70 this week, coincidentally).
