Of all the Donald Byrd produced projects, The 3 Pieces album, Vibes of Truth, is likely the most overlooked and ignored. [The Blackbyrds, another of Donald Byrd’s groups, is usually the first mentioned when Donald Byrd productions are discussed.] The 3 Pieces were not without their own quiet power, as illustrated in “Back Up Against the Wall.” Though not completely mind-blowing, the track has a pleasantly addictive quality that keeps me coming back for more.
