Song of the Day: The Supremes “You Keep Me Hanging On (The Apple Scruffs Edit)”

The Supremes - You Keep Me Hanging On (The Apple Scruffs Edit)

I’ve got nothing but love for The Apple Scruffs. As I wrote a few weeks ago, The Apple Scruffs have been creating expansive re-edits of classic soul, funk and rock tracks, amassing a huge library of tracks.

Their edit of The Supremes’ 1966 Tamla-Motown classic “You Keep Me Hanging On” is another dance floor winner and some of the ‘Scruffs best work, in my opinion. They stretch out the driving proto-funk of the cogent original into a near-disco dance track, teasing out the peaks in the song, setting up a jubilant anticipation. By the time The Supremes sing “Oh-woah-woah,” you’ve got your hands in the air. For real. I played this last weekend and it absolutely slayed. Get it for yourself below.
