Tax day is very nearly upon us, so naturally I wanted this song of the day to be “Taxman” by the Beatles but couldn’t find a good enough video to do it justice so I settled for one of the best covers/copies of Taxman out there – “Start!” by the Jam. Lead by Paul Weller the three-piece band never had the success in the US that they did in the UK where they were worshipped as mod icons. “Start!” hit number one on the UK charts in September of 1980 but barely made a splash in America.
While the Jam were known to be huge Small Faces and Who fans this song takes the guitar riff and bass line from The Beatles’ “Taxman” but makes it something else entirely (and entirely great as well). It appeared on the album Sound Affects.
