Song of the Day: Robert Earl Keen “The Road Goes on Forever”

Country songs, at a least the really good ones, are all about great story telling. Robert Earl Keen’s classic “The Road Goes on Forever” weaves a great story with some fine picking to create a truly memorable song. Released on Keen’s 1989 album “West Textures” the song has come to be his anthem.
Robert Earl Keen grew up in Houston and later attended Texas A&M with Lyle Lovett.. Keen is considered a national treasure in the Texas Hill Country and has a pretty strong following elsewhere. This song tells the story of Sonny and Sherry a kind of modern day Bonnie and Clyde. Its been covered by a few folks including Joe Ely and the Highway Men which included Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. I loved this song the very first time I heard it and hopefully you will too!
