As winter faded this year, “Floating Away” became my spring jam. Now it’s my summer jam because I’m still cranking it.

India Shawn, the sultry female voice on this tune, and her duet partner James Fauntleroy II are both singer/songwriters with career milestones stacking up behind the scenes. Between the two of them, they’ve racked up credits for El Debarge, Keri Hilson, Monica, J. Cole, Frank Ocean and Justin Timberlake. Fauntleroy is also the voice behind my favorite musical project of the last several years. India Shawn is a solo artist who is prepping a second album which will include “Floating Away”.

This sexy modern R&B cut is so refreshing now that today’s R&B has splintered into mutant EDM, “turn up” and singers eagerly adopting rapper clichés. It’s giving me some ’90s and ’00s flavor without sounding dated.
