Jazz pianist Dave Brubeck died today, on the eve of his 92nd birthday. Truly an American icon, Brubeck made music that was simultaneously challenging, intelligent, melodic and accessible. The “Take Five” single, with it’s famous 5/4 time signature, sold one million copies upon its initial release in 1959, and the accompanying album Time Out is an absolute classic, a standout in a career that spanned 6+ decades.
