In the middle of August, I had the pleasure of DJing a super-fun and musically eclectic wedding (wait, that sounds like most of my weddings). During my first meeting with the couple, the bride mentioned that she grew up in Brazil and loves David Bowie. The both of them also appreciated unexpected covers so then I played this wonderful version of “Rebel Rebel” for them and they absolutely loved it. If you’re a Wes Anderson fan, you’ve heard this song in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Brazilian singer-songwriter Seu Jorge’s turn as a Portuguese-singing, Bowie-obsessed crew member aboard the Belafonte inspired him to record an entire album of Bowie covers, The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions. The re-imagining thirteen Bowie classics as beautiful acoustic Brazilian pop received approval from Bowie himself. Highly recommended for people who like music.
