I think my first love was Deborah Foreman, the cute blonde played the role of “Julie” in the 1983 film Valley Girl – also starring Nicolas Cage. Not only did this film introduce me to my first imaginary girlfriend, it brought the music of The Plimsouls into my life. There’s a club scene where the character, “Randy” (Nick Cage) falls into the arms of his ex. On the stage of that club is The Plimsouls performing “A Million Miles Away.” I hadn’t heard the band before but quickly bought their self-titled album and it’s still in my Top 100 of all-time!
