Song of the Day: The J.B.’s “Pass the Peas”

Its Thanksgiving, time to pass the peas!

In the late 60s and early 70s, James Brown’s hand-picked backing band The J.B.’s were the tightest, funkiest, and most formidable musicians around. In 1970, they stepped out from behind James Brown and into the spotlight—with trombonist Fred Wesley as bandleader—with a string of hit singles including “The Grunt,” “Gimme Some More,” and this, the Thanksgiving-appropriate “Pass the Peas.”

Recorded in 1972 for James Brown’s People label, and now available on the outstanding singles collection Pass the Peas: Best of the J.B.’s.
