Song of the Day: The Beatles “Dear Prudence”

The perfect song for the summer solstice

The perfect song for the summer solstice “Dear Prudence” appeared on the album The Beatles which is more commonly known as The White Album and was released in 1968. The song was primarily written by John Lennon about Mia Farrow’s sister Prudence who travelled to India with The Beatles to study with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Rather than hang out with everyone after their lessons Prudence stayed inside to meditate. John wanted her to come out and play.

This song is one of my all-time favorite Beatles’ songs which means it is one of my all time favorite songs. I immediately think of summer when I hear this! The Jerry Garcia Band and Siouxsie and The Banshees both did nice covers of “Dear Prudence” but the original is perfection.
