File under experimental. “Jump Bugs” by Syclops is a dance floor burner in the hands of the right DJ. Its real genius is best understood when felt on the right sound system in the right room. This is not head nodding background filler or big room UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ… In my mind is perfect music for medium sized venues where you have the intensity of a proper sound system and the intimacy of the music being close. A bit beepy techno, solidly house with organic dubbed out percussion. Syclops is comprised of four musicians: the producer and DJ Maurice Fulton aka “disco nomad & master of alien boogie” and three people who are reportedly Finnish: Hanna Sarkari, Jukka Kantonen, Sven Kortehisto. With a small catalog of six records going back to 2001, Syclops are not prolific but worth keeping an eye out for.
