Song of the Day: Stardust “Music Sounds Better with You”

Don’t make me go 90’s on you! Ok, you did.

And that takes me back to a UK and stateside chart topper, “Music Sounds Better with You” from the one-off collaboration of Stardust, a track that was mostly accidental genius when one part Daft Punk, (Thomas Bangalter); French electronic musician Alan Braxe and Parisian singer Benjamin Diamond performed at a Paris night club. Bangalter and Braxe were dropping heat while an improvisational Diamond created the hooking vocal melody. Add some Chaka Kahn samples in the studio ( 80’s anyone? ) and you have a tune that reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

For some reason, the trippy video sticks in my head from my consumer visits to Circuit City (  R.I.P. ) – seeing it play in constant rotation on the rows of 4:3 ratio tube televisions. The hook is still there and who couldn’t love that beat? A nice base for any mix in this decade or the next two. Serve this one as a main course or side at your next event for many happy guests!
