Song of the Day: Neil Young “Down by the River”

“Down by the River” was written by Neil Young supposedly when he was laid up with a 103 degree fever. It first appeared on the Neil Young with Crazy Horse LP Everyone Knows this is Nowhere which was released in 1969. For all you electric guitar lovers this ones for you! The lyrics (about killing your girlfriend) are sparse but the guitar leads just snarl and growl for a good seven or eight minutes. The version linked here is from the 1969 Big Sur Folk Festival with Steven Stills trading leads with Neil instead of Danny Whiten who appeared on the album version. PLAY LOUD!
