Man, if I hear another album this year that is better than this Moodymann LP, it’ll be a great year for music. The elusive Detroit champion Moodymann has been churning out deep, sample-based soul music for late-night dance floors for 20 some years. This self titled LP, in my opinion, is his greatest achievement. It’s still unmistakably Moodymann, but this time it’s more geared for headphones than it is for the dance floor, with more complex arrangements and vocals than he’s done in the past. SO GOOD. It was tough to pick a tune, but “Lyk U Use 2 (feat. Andres)” might be my favorite. It’s been on repeat for a while.
