I just heard UK soulstress Lianne La Havas for the first time tonight—via NPR—and was instantly hooked. I stayed in the parking lot long enough to fire up the Amazon app and ‘add to cart.’ Traveling in the same alternative folk-soul waters as Corinne Bailey Rae and reminiscent of Dave Matthews and Ani DiFranco. I know those comparisons inevitably relegate her to the ‘adult alternative’ category, but the young singer’s single “Is Your Love Big Enough?” has summer festival-sized hooks. The tune starts with a funky acoustic lead and La Havas’ soulful vocal, but then jumps with a giant singalong chorus complete with handclaps. First rate.
