Song of The Day: Les Sins “Why [feat. Nate Salman]”

“Don’t try to be original, just try to be good”

Chaz Bundick, aka Toro Y Moi has been working on a new more dance-oriented album for the past two years under a new moniker, Les Sins. The full length, Michael, released November 4, takes what Bundick has done previously with Toro Y Moi and strips it even further. Citing Timbaland, Mr. Oizo and Daft Punk as inspirations for the album, Bundick points to modernist designer Paul Rand’s advice of “Don’t try to be original, just try to be good” as his approach for the entire album. Out of all the tracks, the song “Why,” featuring Nate Salman, is by far the catchiest and closest to his previous work. The lyrics are more sparse but the french touch influence is heavy and definitely keeps to Bundick’s goal.

Though it does sound like Daft Punk, you can’t deny how solid and timeless the track sounds. The album features largely instrumental dance tracks that rely heavily on groove and the occasional sparse pop hooks. Michael is out now on Bundick’s new imprint with Carpark Records, Company Records. Check out “Why” here:
