Song of the Day: Gregory Porter “1960 What?” (Opolopo Kick & Bass Rerub)

Gregory PorterI try to go easy myself on missing amazing gems as soon as they drop but it particularly burns to observe a peer DJ slay a room with a track that’s been sitting in your inbox for months unheard. And that’s how today’s song of the day entered my arsenal.

Gregory Porter is an accomplished and lauded modern jazz singer that I wasn’t hip to until Swedish producer Opolopo subtly rinsed this smoldering protest song for the dancefloor. Sometimes the smallest touches can have a huge effect, and this remix of an already powerful tune has been gathering steam for a year and is now catching fire.

Previously a SoundCloud exclusive, it’s now available on Opolopo’s 2011 remix compilation Mutants.
