Earlier this year, Pos and Dave (Plugs 1&2) of De La Soul collaborated with French producers Chokolate and Khalid to release a side project separate from their legendary hip-hop group.
As First Serve, the duo creates two fictional characters – Jacob “Pop” Life and Deen “D” Whitter – telling a humorous story of what it was once like to strive for dreams of rap stardom in days past.
The video for “Must B The Music” sets the tone for a group that doesn’t take itself the least bit seriously. The album is reminiscent of their former mentor Prince Paul‘s hip-hopera A Prince Among Thieves.
