Song of the Day: De La Soul “Me Myself & Doug [Dr Packer’s Knee Deep Mix]”

Dr Packer simply does not quit! Applying his remix techniques to the De La Soul 1989 classic, “Me Myself and I,” Dr Packer plays up the Doug E. Fresh and Funkadelic samples, adding more of the latter’s original “Knee Deep” melody and giving it a slightly harder thump for the dance floor.

“Me Myself & I” established the group’s characteristic style of combining hip hop with humor and social commentary. The group’s frustration concerning their forced-upon hippie label is addressed in the typically dry humor which became the De La Soul trademark. It was the group’s only number one on the U.S. R&B chart [and] is included in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
