Who better to reinterpret a disco classic than Louie Vega, a Master At Work? Apparently, the original master tapes for Convertion’s 1980 single—on disco and garage label Sam Records“Let’s Do It” are gone, so Louie just redid the whole thing, complete with original Convertion member Leroy Burgess on vocals! The feel-good percussion-filled boogie groove of the original gets reinterpreted as thumping soulful house in the best Masters At Work tradition.

Song of the Day: Convertion Let’s Do It (Louie Vega Dance Ritual Mix)The original Convertion lineup: Leroy Burgess (lead and background vocals, keyboards), Leroy’s adopted brother James Calloway (bass), Leroy’s cousin Sonny T. Davenport (drums). Additional members were Leroy’s sister Renee J.J. Burgess and Dorothy Terrell on background vocals, Sonny DeGraffenreid (guitar), Fred McFarlane (keyboards), Leroy’s cousin Willis Long (percussion) and Trevor Gale (live drums).

Out right now on the venerable New York house label Nurvous Records, this is the biggest soulful house tune of the year so far. So good! I have a feeling this will be big at the Sol Power Sunset Sessions all summer long. Check out Louis Vega’s Dance Ritual Mix and the Convertion original here and get ready for the rooftop!
