It’s 2:30am and I’m wide awake, maybe because my body thinks this is normal as I’m usually wrapping up a gig at this time. But tonight, as my body insists on being wide awake at this ungodly hour, I write this post. The theme this month is, naturally, Halloween, so I’m thinking about a song that has the effect on my that Halloween is supposed to have- sending shivers down my spine.

I thought I hated to be scared until two years ago when my then-boyfriend insisted that I go with him to House of Horrors (maybe it was called Field of Screams?) Anyways, after much debate, I caved and went along. It turns out getting scared can be kind of fun… who knew?

So I’m sitting in my dark living room, listening to the crickets, testing out different song ideas, waiting for those shivers to let me know I’ve landed on the right choice. Alas- “The Horror” by RJD2 gives me the CREEPS. (I turn on some lights so I’m not in complete darkness). The video is like a horror film- staying true to its title. About halfway through, after RJD2 himself is running through an abandoned building, blood running down the side of his tormented face, he finds some kind of radio(?) and transports to another time and place where men in black robes and white masks are drinking dark liquor and repeating the phrase “I will amuse myself with terror.” Umm, I’m now turning on all of the lights in my house because I’m getting SCARED!!
