Song of the Day: The Monochrome Set “Jet Set Junta”

The Monochrome Set is one of those great late 70’s/early 80’s English bands that should have been huge, but hardly anyone in the US recognizes. They had catchy/dancy songs with great lyrics and cool band member names (Bid, Lester Square). I was hooked the first time I heard their 1982 masterpiece Eligible Bachelors from which “Jet Set Junta” was the lead track.

The Monochrome Set was formed in London in 1978 as an offshoot of another band which became Adam and the Ants. Their first album came out in 1980 and they still play to this day. “Jet Set Junta” was a satiric commentary on the Falklands War in 1982. Experimental filmmaker Tony Potts, a friend of the band, and who also played a key role in the band’s look as well. I’m not sure if he directed this video or not.
