Song of the Day: Eddie and the Hot Rods “Do Anything You Wanna Do”

Eddie and the Hot Rods 1977 song “Do Anything You Wanna Do” made it to #9 on the UK charts that year but did nothing in the United States. 1977 was the year punk (and disco) broke – so maybe it got lost in the shuffle – but this is a song that should have been big on this side of the pond. It was very catchy, had great lyrics and rocked hard but wasn’t totally punk.

Although Eddie and the Hot Rods weren’t punks they do have some direct ties with the Sex Pistols : The Pistols‘ first ever London show was opening for the Hot Rods and The Clash (they shared a residency with Joe Strummer‘s pre-Clash band The 101ers). The also shared a residency at London’s famed Marquee (where I saw them in the early ’80s) with AC/DC. They also toured the US with The Ramones and Talking Heads. Why all those bands became famous and the Hot Rods didn’t is anyone’s guess… all I know is that they should have been huge! Enjoy the video and do anything you wanna do!
