Single of the Week: Project Gemini “Path Through the Forest”

Project Gemini - The RitualProject Gemini’s latest single release—and teaser for their upcoming full-length debut, Children of Scorpio—is “Path Through the Forest”/”The Ritual” on Jerusalem-based label, Delights. Founded by “Jerusalem-based musician/producer/DJ/turntablist/crate-digger and music archivist” Markey Funk in 2011, Delights is “dedicated to modern psychedelic grooves, inspired by the 1960’s and 1970’s film, library and exploitation music.” I discovered Delights late last year via Brighton-based label mates MNP and have been following and collecting the label since. Every one of the sixteen 7″ vinyl releases in its catalog perfectly articulates the label’s mission. Collecting Delights feels like assembling a long-lost psychedelic film one scene at a time.

Project Gemini are London-based Paul Osborne, drummer Shuzin, and Markey Funk on additional keyboards and production. On “Path Through the Forest,” a nimble funk bass line and hard-hitting drums lay the rhythmic bed for haunting stalker themes on organ and chimes. A cogent piece of modern, moody, cinematic funk that holds its own with the best of its vintage inspirations.

Digital and a few remaining physical 7″ copies of the single are available via the Delights Bandcamp page.
