Jane and Nate’s Hillsborough Vineyards Wedding
My previous wedding was a farewell to summer, then I had the pleasure of welcoming autumn on a beautiful evening with Jane and Nate. This Hillsborough Vineyards wedding was postcard perfect, with breathtaking wine country views for an outdoor ceremony. From my post behind my ceremony rig, I had a great vantage point to take it all in while my partner for the event, DJ Cleveland Browne snapped some precious moments.
The couple matched the natural beauty with their choices for ceremony music: “Cuartelera” by Paco Peña and “Suite Espanola – no.1: Granada” by Andres Segovia. They were ecstatic at ceremony’s end and pranced back down the aisle to Maroon 5‘s “Moves Like Jagger”.
The basis of the music for dining were a few great picks suggested by Jane: Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf and Buena Vista Social Club. I filled in the rest with some Esthero, Sunlightsquare Latin Combo and Astrud Gilberto.
An unseasonable chill set in after dinner as I waited on the patio for the party to begin. The space for dancing was rustic and charming but I was worried that the temperature would spoil the festivities before they really got going. My concerns didn’t last long. They were a fun bunch with a lot of joy to expend and were ready to celebrate.
Some of Jane’s older Peruvian relatives particularly tickled me. I always know it’s a good night when mature couples are ready to cut loose on the dancefloor. They’re such a great example of how keeping the fun alive is what a brand new married couple should strive for.
The first dances were all timeless classics. Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” for the couple, Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight” for the bride and her dad, and Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World” for the groom and his mother. Then I kept it classic as well as seasonally fitting by opening the dancefloor with Earth, Wind & Fire’s“September”.
My pop medley highlights included Enrique Iglesias “Tonight I’m Loving You”, Havana Brown’s “We Run The Night” and Duck Sauce’s “Barbara Streisand” which generated shrieks on the dancefloor. Best request of the night was definitely “White Lines (Don’t Do It)” by Grandmaster Melle Mel. Passport stamp pick of the evening was “Si Te Me Pego” by Grupo Extra. The “I love this song and it’s awesome when my audience digs it too” selection was Stevie Wonder’s “Don’t You Worry About A Thing.”
Since we were out in the countryside with early rising neighbors, I had a hard ending to meet so as not to earn any noise violations. The party people weren’t having it though. I was able to sneak in Harry Belafonte‘s “Jump In The Line” for one last whirl around the floor. Fortunately, the cops didn’t come knocking.
