Dale and Ken’s January 18th wedding reception at the historic Decatur House followed their ceremony at the Church of the Holy City. It was a cold mid-winter day but the carriage house at Decatur House was the scene for a warm and lively affair. Family had come in from across the country, with a large contingent making the journey all the way from New Orleans. On this particular occasion I was on hand to provide the sound system for toasts and to DJ the dance party following dinner.

I was setup alongside a jazz trio which got the party started early with a number of classics that had couples slow dancing before dinner was even over. Following toasts I led the dancing with the New Orleans sounds of Jambalaya by Professor Longhair and My Toot Toot by Rockin’ Sidney.

Dale and Ken were great about covering their musical tastes with me and the emphasis was on popular 80’s dance songs with a touch of 60’s soul! They read their crowd perfectly and folks danced to each and every song as we covered the likes of The Kingsmen, Shannon, Violent Femmes, a-Ha, Michael Jackson, Modern English and The Pointer Sisters with a couple of on the spot requests for line dances such as Cupid Shuffle and the Electric Slide.

Dale’s request of “Last Dance” by Donna Summer as the final song of the evening sent guests off into the night on a upbeat note that defined the entire celebration.
