Song of the Day: All Good Funk Alliance “Closer To The Edge”
“Closer to the Edge” is my favorite song off of the new All Good Funk Alliance album Jack Of All Trades, written by Frank Cueto (my husband!) and produced by our own Rusty B.
Song of the Day: DJ Moneyshot “Rob Resurrected”
DJ Moneyshot and his ‘anything goes’ approach to his mixes have long been an inspiration. So when I heard he’d moved beyond super-clever mash ups and turned his feverish hands to production, I was quick to find out what he’d cooked up.
Song of the Day: Seville “Show Me The Way”
Seville was a short-lived apparition, made up of musicians from various DC groups who took it upon themselves to cut one single in their downtime between other projects. “Show Me The Way” sails ahead with strings and smile-inducing horns that lead you into a headbob groove with positive lyrics on top.
Song of the Day: Queen “Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to…)”
From the classic Night at the Opera album, “Death on Two Legs (Dedicated To…)” is Queen’s kiss-off to former manager Norman Whitfield.
AGFA: Jacks of All Trades out today!
The eagerly-anticipated new All Good Funk Alliance full-length Jacks of All Trades is out today on Fort Knox Recordings!
Song of the Day: Billy Bragg “The Internationale”
Billy Bragg sings his version of the anthem sung by people all over the world on May Day.
Rusty B: Erik and Ann’s Hillsborough Vineyard’s Wedding
Way out on the edge of Virginia and West Virginia, Hillsborough Vineyard was the setting for Erik and Ann’s wedding. Classic bossa nova, Bollywood, bhangra, 80s pop, and indie kept spirits high.
Bucket Funk at Dodge City this Friday!
DJ D-Mac & Rusty B invite you to Dodge City for serious dance floor action featuring bangin’ ghetto funk, future go-go, and boogie.
Song of the Day: Dandy Livingstone “I’m Your Puppet”
“I’m Your Puppet” is Dandy Livingstone’s cover of the James & Bobby Purify song and is rocksteady for the ages.
Song of the Day: DJ Eli & Shan Boogs Ft Yeshua de PoED, J Treds, and Pumpkinhead “Truly Gifted Ones”
Throwback alert! To me, this is one of unfortunately too few indy hip hop releases from the late 1990s that has aged pretty well. With one foot firmly planted in the old-school, DJ Eli (now Eli Escobar) has gone on to produce fantastic house joints, but “Truly Gifted Ones,” a co-production with Shan Boogs, is an example of great NYC indy hip hop.
