So, for the Fourth of July Holiday I wanted to pick an “iconic” American song for my Song of the Day. While thinking about it I came up with “American Music” by the Violent Femmes. This is not considered one of their best songs (nor is it really and “iconic” American song) but it is one of my favorites. It has almost a 50’s throwback feel with a 90’s flair. In a way this song is quite different than their normal “hits.” It almost has a folk feeling to it and does not reek of sweaty teenage frustration. Although, they recently proved that type of music is still very popular by taking the stage at Coachella this year.
