Song of the Day: V.I.C. “Wobble”

Last Friday the 68th Annual Radio & TV Congressional Correspondents Association Dinner* took place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, with 1300 guests in attendance. I was honored to again DJ the after-party.

The Howard Thunder Machine brought their thunderous precision to close out the event and usher guests into the expansive lobby where numerous bars were set up for the after-party. After their performance, the ‘Machine stuck around to help light things up on my dance floor. Among requests for classics from Johnny Kemp and Funkadelic was an early call for Atlanta hip-hop dance sensation V.I.C.’s “The Wobble.” In case you’re not familiar, “The Wobble” was the second single off V.I.C.’s 2008 debut album, but only recently hit the Billboard Hot 100 chart (it debuted at #94 this past January)—talk about a slow burn!—and now it is a massive line dance hit.

Riding in on a loping go-go rhythm and a funky horn chart that’d make Chuck Brown nod in approval, “The Wobble” got the dance floor 100-strong and ready to get down. Too bad we had to shut the dance floor down right after I blended into Morlack’s remix of EU’s “Da Butt.” Next year I’ll start the go-go earlier in the set!

*This was the event that Louis CK was supposed to host, but dropped out shortly after the official announcement and Greta Van Susteren’s subsequent high profile call for a boycott, calling him ‘a pig [that] denigrates women.’ In an triumph of irony over spotlight-grabbing ignorance, the hosting duties were fulfilled by Wayne Brady.
