Song of the Day: The Who “Young Man Blues”

In the early morning hours of August 29, 1970 a four-piece band from London, The Who, walked out on stage at the Isle of Wight Festival in front of approximately 500,000 people. The five day festival on an island in the English Channel featured Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Miles Davis, Sly and the Family Stone, Leonard Cohen, Jethro Tull, Joni Mitchell and scores of other musical heavyweights, but out all of these great groups The Who’s performance is probably the most famous.

The Who started around 3AM and played almost 3 and 1/2 hours and luckily for us cameras caught the whole performance. Its hard to pick one highlight but this version of Mose Allison’s “Young Man Blues” is the single most electrifying piece of rock n roll cinema I’ve ever seen. Enough reading, see for yourself (play loud).
