Song of the Day: The Sweet “No You Don’t”

Back in the early 70’s I discovered a lot of new music through my uncle Billy. Billy was eleven years older than me and turned me on to AC/DC, Sparks, Camel, UFO, Mott the Hoople, and The Sweet. The Sweet started as a bubblegum-ish band in the late sixties but by 1974 when this song came out they were a classic hard rock glam band. Their album Desolation Boulevard (different versions in the US and the UK) quickly became one of my favorites. The two big US hits from the LP were “Ballroom Blitz” and “Fox on the Run” but the whole thing is great. Loud clear guitars, loud clear drums, loud clear vocals, and great hooks. “No You Don’t” is a great album track later covered by Pat Benatar and it rocks!
