Washington, DC has given birth to its fair share of soul superstars. During the 1970s, one Eastern High School group would earn a contract with Detroit’s illustrious Motown Records. The Dynamic Superiors were their name, and the group was quite unique in their genre. How so you ask? Look no further than their album covers and lead vocalist, who was the first—and possibly only—major label soul star to flaunt his openly gay sexuality on album covers and in shows. Yet, it wasn’t just visual theatrics that made the group shine. There’s a reason they were signed to Motown: talent. Check the clip, which happens to be my favorite Superiors track!
