Song of the Day: Skeewiff & The Funk Brothers “Jingle Bell Thanks”

12 Days of Xmas Super Soul!

Fave producers Skeewiff bring some holiday joy to the dance floor with “Jingle Bell Thanks,” the first installment of their 12 Days of Xmas Super Soul. That’s right, a song a day for the next twelve days, making for a full-length album of holiday goodies, fully available December 25th. Follow Skeewiff on Facebook and Soundcloud to stay on top of every daily release.

“Jingle Bell Thanks” is a beefed-up reworking of Booker T. & the MGs’ classic soul version of “Jingle Bells” (originally appearing on both Stax Records The Original Soul Christmas 1967 comp and the 1965 In the Christmas Spirit album). Why Skeewiff credits it to Motown’s Funk Brothers is beyond me (The Funk Brothers were never allowed to be this in-the-pocket at the Motown studio; this is the sound of Stax!). Regardless it’s a real treat of a tune.
