Song of the Day: Paint Branch “Brighton Beach”

I was pretty excited to find out last year that John Davis and Chris Richards were collaborating on new music. Their previous band, Q and Not U, was one of my local favorites a decade ago, and I’ve enjoyed their subsequent work (Georgie James, Ris Pau Ric, Title Tracks).

Here they eschew the acerbic experimentalism of Q and Not U and are not afraid to make music that can comfortably be compared to classic rock. The guitar solos recall Neil Young and the big vocal harmonies near the end sound like the Beach Boys. If you are going to evoke music from the 60s or 70s, you could do a lot worse than that.
