“Electricity,” the pioneering 1979 debut single from Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, is one of my favorite synth-pop records. Wrapped in striking sleeve graphics by Peter Saville, “Electricity” helped to usher in the synth-pop era with undeniable style and energy. Though later releases “So in Love” and “If You Leave” are more popular with U.S. audiences (thanks largely to MTV and John Hughes), I still rate it as one of their best tunes.
