Song of the Day: Morphine “Take Me with You”

Morphine’s “Take Me with You” personified their sound. They have a clever mix of rock arrangements with blues, jazz and a little folk music influences. The band was made up of bass, sax and drums, and it certainly makes for a very interesting sound. I have to say that I normally HATE the sax but for some reason I LOVE it in any Morphine song. They have described their sound as “low rock” which fits the minimalist sound perfectly.

I picked “Take Me with You” to showcase because it is one of their sexiest songs with great vocals by bassist/vocalist Mark Sandman, who sadly died on stage in 1999. The band immediately broke up, which is a real shame, as I think they could have continued to create a very different and unique sound for many years to come.
