Song of the Day: Jackson do Pandeiro “Sebastiana”

one of the biggest names in Brazilian music

Jackson do Pandeiro, who passed away in 1982, was one of the biggest names in Brazilian music. Jackson was a singer and percussionist who along with Luíz Gonzaga helped bring music from the Brazilian Northeast to the city centers (and record companies) in Sao Paulo and Rio. He wrote countless songs many of which have become Brazilian standards. Jackson’s songs have been covered by Gilberto Gil, Lenine, Ze Ramalho and many others. The track I’ve chosen here is one of my favorites and is called “Sebastiana.” This video shows Jackson just a few years before his death and he’s still got it.
